Cats (C.1830) White Bookmark

During the sixth century, Buddhist monks travelled from China to Japan accompanied by domesticated cats to guard over their possessions. They protected the sacred texts from mice and were thought to bring good luck. By Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858)
